Football: Tim Lins steps down as head coach at Moorpark

Share

Tim Lins, hired as football coach at age 27 at Crespi and later a successful coach at Moorpark, has decided to step down as a head coach at age 55.

He spent the last 18 years at Moorpark and will give up the position. He intends to stay as a teacher and also serve as strength coach.

“I’ve been hogging this position long enough,” Lins said.

Lins earned great respect for the way he taught discipline and life lessons to his players.

He spent 10 years at Crespi, succeeding Bill Redell, then went to Moorpark, where the school had to take on the likes of Oaks Christian and St. Bonaventure.

He helped produce three NFL tight ends, more than eight players who went on to military academies and numerous others who went on to other colleges.

Moorpark will begin a search for a replacement.

There are more than 50 high school football coaching openings in Southern California.

Jeff Williams, the football coach at Palmdale since 1991, announced Monday night he had stepped down.
