Man killed in car driven by Salma Hayek’s brother was Grammy winner
The man who was killed Sunday when Salma Hayek’s brother crashed his sports car in Beverly Crest was identified Tuesday as Grammy Award-winning art director Ian Cuttler Sala.
Sala, 43, is from New York City and his parents arrived this week in Los Angeles from Mexico, said Lt. Fred Corral of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
Corral said investigators will examine Sala on Tuesday to begin to determine his exact cause of death.
Sala was a passenger in 40-year-old Sami Hayek’s Ford GT as he was driving eastbound on a winding stretch of Sunset Boulevard near Mapleton Drive at about 4:20 p.m. when he lost control and crossed into the street’s westbound lanes, colliding with a truck, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
It is unclear how fast Hayek was driving when he crashed.
Sala suffered major blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash, authorities said.
Hayek and the 20-year-old driver of the truck he collided with escaped without major injuries.
According to Sala’s website, his awards include a Grammy for art direction for “Johnny Cash: The Legend” box set music package.
