‘Ender’s Game’ fails to net high score from critics

Based on the popular young-adult novel by Orson Scott Card, the new film “Ender’s Game” shares at least superficial similarities with the recent sci-fi smash “Gravity” (with its dazzling zero-G effects) and last year’s YA blockbuster “The Hunger Games” (with its story of teenagers compelled to become cold-blooded killers).

This weekend Hollywood was again unable to lure teens to the multiplex in droves, as “Ender’s Game” became the latest young adult adaptation to open with modest ticket sales.

“Ender’s Game” may not be the best-executed adaptation in the history of moviedom.
In its bid at franchise-hood, “Ender’s Game” has been dinged by a number of factors, including a campaign by human rights groups to boycott the movie because of author Orson Scott Card’s anti-gay politics.
Digital Domain co-produced the sci-fi adventure film with OddLot Entertainment and Summit Entertainment and provided much of the visual effects.
