Grant Miller had three goals, six steals and three assists to lead Damien (18-0), The Times’ No. 6 ranked team, to it’s third straight North Orange County championship at Capistrano Valley High. Jon Evans, Matt Martin and Steve Donohoe, each added three goals for the Spartans.

Third Place

Irvine University 17, Upland 12
David Mock had six goals to lead Irvine University. Robert Bersbach had seven goals and Doug Lindsey had 10 saves in the loss for Upland.

Fifth place

Allen Travis had five goals to lead Sonora.

Matt Miller had 4 goals in the first half for Loyola (12-3).

Harvard-Westlake 9, Long Wilson 8
Will Hindle-Katel, Brian Flacks and Eric Vreeland each scored two goals for Harvard-Westlake, the No. 1-ranked team in the Times’ rankings and the Wolverines won a close physical game over visiting Long Beach Wilson, ranked No. 2 by The Times.

Wilson, ranked No. 4 in the Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll, led, 2-1, after the first quarter before Harvard-Westlake (16-1) rallied to tie the game, 4-4, at halftime.

The Wolverines, top-ranked in the Division I coaches’ poll, never trailed in the second half, when Hindle-Katel, Flacks and Vreeland each scored once. Harvard-Westlake led, 7-5, after three quarters.

Chris Villaneuva scored three goals for La Serna (13-6) at Righetti.

Sam O’Hare had three goals and Tim Pickett chipped in with two for visiting Mira Costa (12-5, 2-0). Zach Beckmann had two goals for Peninsula (12-6, 1-1).
