'Comfort women' memorial highlights abuse worldwide

To the editor: Residents of Glendale ought to be proud that their City Council voted to keep the "comfort women" memorial in the city's Central Park. ("Federal judge upholds 'comfort women' statue in Glendale park," Aug. 11) "Battering" of women occurs in international and national arenas. Some powerful figures in the Vatican choose to exert power over women living the Christian gospels, including those in the Leadership Conference of Women Religious.
