Late Gators coach, AD Ray Graves remembered as 'the guy who built this place'

GAINESVILLE — Jeremy Foley, Norm Carlson or Steve Spurrier may not have made it to the University of Florida without Ray Graves. Without Graves, Gator athletics would have never been the same. Foley could have returned to his native New Hampshire rather than sticking around in Florida's heat and humidity to eventually become one of the nation's top athletic directors. Carlson, a walking encyclopedia of UF history, was the sports information director in the early 1960s at Auburn when Graves convinced him to return to his alma mater. Spurrier could have gone anywhere in 1963, but he left Johnson City, Tenn., for Gainesville rather than Tuscaloosa or Los Angeles because...
