L.A.’s not as sexy as New York? Who says? Um, Playboy magazine

Who says L.A. isn't sexy? Playboy. New York is sexier, it says. But really, what's sexier than Vans U.S. Open of Surfing earlier this month in Huntington Beach?

Los Angeles, you need to be kinkier and have affairs somewhere hipper than the Holiday Inn in downtown Santa Monica.

That’s the word from Playboy magazine, which on Wednesday crowned New York the sexiest city in America and Los Angeles as No. 2 in a ranking of 25 cities.

Among NYC’s pluses, the magazine says, is a city where “the people are hot, the sex is prime quality and the frequency is high, averaging 138 times per year.”

L.A., on the other hand, received high marks for “beaches, blondes and sun” but the poll found that less than 20% of respondents were into whips and other items, according to Playboy.

San Francisco, San Diego and Santa Barbara also made the cut. Surprisingly, Las Vegas only made it to No. 8, not quite living up to its Sin City moniker.

Playboy says the rankings are based on two polls and other criteria such as “hot locals, cool nightlife, a great setting and an undercurrent of desire.” You can read more about how the magazine calculated its nightlife index and other parameters on the magazine’s website.
