Festival of Lights

When, where: Nov. 27 through Dec. 31, Washington Street and throughout town

Highlights: Yountville’s 21st annual celebration showcases itself with holiday lights and brings in Santa, carolers, elves, horse-drawn carriages and ice carvers. The town’s world-class chefs fire up the grills, and shops and galleries stay open late.

VENTURA

One of a Kind Christmas Show

When, where: Nov. 27 to 29, Ventura Fairgrounds

Highlights: Theatrical, musical, comedy and poetry performances, plus gift and holiday food shopping, ice skating, and sleigh and train rides.

Cost: $6; $3 for kids ages 3 to 12; free for ages 2 and younger. Certain activities may require a fee. Proceeds benefit the homeless and homeless prevention.

CARLSBAD

Legoland’s Holly Jolly Holidays

When, where: Tree lighting Nov. 30; festivities through Dec. 31, Legoland

Highlights: A monthlong celebration kicks off with Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott lighting the world’s biggest Lego Christmas tree. The theme park livens up with decorations and weekend entertainment with carolers and elves. There’ll be nightly fireworks Dec. 26 to 31 and a kids’ New Year’s Eve party on Dec. 31.

Cost: Free with admission ($65; $55 for children ages 3 to 12 and seniors older than 60.

CALISTOGA, CALIF.

Calistoga Lighted Tractor Parade

When, where: Dec. 5, Lincoln Avenue

Highlights: For the 14th year, locals pay tribute to their agricultural heritage by illuminating and decorating more than 100 tractors and other farm vehicles, then parading them on the main drag. The same weekend in Calistoga is the 40th annual Christmas Bazaar, as well as the Winter in the Wineries Passport Weekend.
