Cruise to the frozen North to see coastal fiords, glaciers, Arctic wildflowers, polar bears and whales on a 15-day Audubon Society voyage to the west coast of Greenland and Canada’s Baffin Island. The Aug. 24 journey begins with one night in Ottawa, Canada. After a chartered flight the next day, passengers embark on the 330-foot expedition ship the Clipper Adventurer in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland.

The ship will cruise the fiords and view the glaciers of Greenland, stopping when conditions permit so that passengers can travel by Zodiac landing craft to fishing and hunting villages along the coast.

“Greenland and Baffin Island hold many arctic birds and interesting wildlife,” said Kelly F. Connaughton of the Massachusetts Audubon Society. But the trip has elements of interest to more than bird lovers.

“We are going to visit the mummies discovered in 1972, so there’s an archeological piece to it,” she said, referring to the ice mummies found in the village of Qilakitsoq in Greenland. The 122-passenger ship will cruise the coast of Baffin Island, the Inuit nation of Nunavut and will visit local villages.

Passengers disembark in Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut, and fly to Ottawa for the last night of the tour.

Cost: $7,960 ($3,205 single surcharge), including hotel and ship accommodations, meals, charter flights, sightseeing, guides, transfers, port charges and gratuities. Airfare from Los Angeles is not included.
