Police said the incident began shortly after 6:45 p.m. Saturday, when a group of six men drove to a house in the 300 block of North Bewley Street, a west Santa Ana neighborhood north of Santa Anita Park.

A fistfight erupted between the six men and two brothers who live at the Bewley Street residence. According to police, the father of the two brothers came out of the house with a handgun and fired a single shot at his sons’ attackers.

The bullet struck Diaz, who was treated by paramedics and rushed to the hospital emergency room in Fountain Valley.
