Truckers on routes not usually patrolled for safety violations encountered a California Highway Patrol task force that issued about 170 tickets for mechanical defects and other violations during two days last week. The program is aimed at correcting the mechanical condition of trucks and preventing the unsafe transportation of hazardous materials in areas where there are no inspection facilities.
