An argument between rival gang members in the Echo Park area ended with a man stabbed to death and the suspected killer suffering serious stab wounds at the hands of the dead man’s brother, Los Angeles police said. Officers said that after Sergio Enriquez, 26, allegedly killed Martin Jose Mendoza, 20, on a sidewalk in the 1600 block of North Alvarado Street, Enriquez turned on Mendoza’s brother, Steve Peralto, 30. In the ensuing fight, officers said, Enriquez was stabbed repeatedly. Enriquez and Peralto were arrested a few minutes later and both were booked--Enriquez at the County-USC Medical Center jail ward on suspicion of murder and Peralto at a police jail on suspicion of attempted murder.
