A Florence man who peered out his window to investigate “scratching noises” was shot in the head and died 5 1/2 hours later, police said. Sgt. Richard Adams of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau said an initial investigation revealed little. No suspects are in custody. The name of the 25-year-old victim was withheld pending notification of relatives.
