A 17-year-old Escondido youth died Monday morning when the car he was driving hit a tree, a coroner’s spokesman said.
Paul Joseph Gomez was driving north on El Camino Real in Carlsbad at 12:53 a.m. when he lost control of his car, Deputy County Coroner David Lodge said. The car traveled down an embankment and struck a tree, he said.
Gomez was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas, where he was pronounced dead at 1:53 p.m., Lodge said.
