Michaelene Wagner of Lakewood has been elected president of the Los Angeles County Board of Education. Wagner was appointed to the seven-member board in 1981 by county Supervisor Deane Dana and served as vice president last year under outgoing president Ruth Bloom.

Elizabeth Wallace of Long Beach is the new president of the Public Corp. for the Arts, the official arts advisory body to the City of Long Beach. She has served on the corporation board of directors since 1982. She is an 18-year member of the Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education.

Michael White of La Habra Heights, a graduate of Rancho-Starbuck Intermediate School in Whittier, has been selected one of 50 Pop Warner National Scholars. White, who this year played his fifth year of Pop Warner Football with the La Habra Raiders, was selected for the honor based on scholastic achievement.

Mark D. Wigod, a June graduate of Millikan High School in Long Beach, has received a $2,000 Bank of America Achievement Award in science and mathematics. Mary R. Rose of Whittier, a June graduate of La Habra High School, received a second-place award of $1,000 in science and mathematics. Robert Sturr, a June graduate of Whittier Christian High, won a third-place award of $750 in applied and fine arts.

Michelle Krotinger, daughter of Nat and Sheila Krotinger of La Mirada, has completed double master’s degrees in a program involving both USC and Hebrew Union College. She received a master’s in public administration from USC and a master’s in Jewish communal studies from Hebrew Union College. Krotinger works as a press secretary for Los Angeles City Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky.

Honorary chairmen named for the Compton High School Band fund-raising project are City Councilman Maxcy Filer, Dolores Mitchell, Clarence Childs of the Chamber of Commerce and PTA council member Rita Caddell. The goal is to raise $50,000 for new band instruments and uniforms.

Jacquelyn W. Carter, a teacher in the Compton Unified School District, will be a state judge in the 1985 program to recognize excellence in student literary magazines. The competition is sponsored annually by the National Council of Teachers of English.

George H. Lindrum, a Montebello resident and Whittier College alumnus, has been named teacher of the year by the American Home Economics Assn. Lindrum is chairman of the home economics department at Belmont High School in Los Angeles. He was chosen for the honor because of his hotel and restaurant occupations training program.

Dr. William Olson is the new president of the medical staff at Long Beach Community Hospital. He is an internist and director of the hospital’s department of nuclear medicine. Serving as vice president is Dr. Charles Durnin, and as medical staff secretary is Dr. Stanley Goldberg.

Attorney Allan E. Tebbetts and realtor Pam A. Briley have been reappointed by Supervisor Deane Dana to the county’s Long Beach Comprehensive Health Center Corp.
