Lomita : Mobile Home Ordinance
The City Council this week tentatively approved a long-awaited ordinance that defines the rights of residents who must vacate a mobile home park.
Under the ordinance, owners who intend to sell a park or convert it to other uses must give residents a year’s notice of eviction. Notice may not be given until an impact report approved by the city.
The ordinance was proposed after the owner of Palos Verdes Mobile Home Park in Lomita notified residents in October that the park was being closed. The residents were given 60 days to vacate. City Atty. Leland Dolley said that notice will be invalidated when the ordinance is passed on second reading in January.
The ordinance also allows the council to determine whether a park’s owners must provide relocation assistance.
Residents of the Palos Verdes park called initial approval of the ordinance a victory, and their attorney, Charles Elssessor, thanked Dolley and the council.
But attorney C. Brent Swanson, representing the Wei-Chuan Construction Co. of Monterey Park, which owns the site, said the delay is unfair to his client.
