Police Calls

Share

Although I have lived in Southern California since 1963, one aspect of life here still puzzles me. I was reminded of it after the small earthquake in Orange County recently.

After every earthquake, why do people rush to their phones and call the police? The other night, Los Alamitos police received 100 calls; Westminster police received 50. What do people expect the police to do? Rush outside the station house with guns drawn, point their weapons at the ground and shout, “Halt, or I’ll shoot!”
