Fiji Islands Rocked by Two Strong Quakes

WASHINGTON —
Two powerful earthquakes early today rocked the Fiji Islands, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
There were no immediate reports of damage in the isolated area, and the agency could not immediately pinpoint the epicenters of the quakes.
The first registered 6.7 on the Richter scale and the second, 25 minutes later, had a preliminary reading of 7.2, a spokesman for the Geological Survey said.
