Sailing Ships
Secretary of Defense Caspar W. Weinberger is wrong. He should let the Navy build a new tall ship. Twenty million dollars is a drop in the bucket compared to today’s defense spending.
If we build a tall ship, Russia would then build a bigger sailing ship. We would retaliate with a bigger one. Soon the seas would be full of sailing ships again. Both sides would realize how ridiculous it is to keep building electronic, smart-bomb, billion-dollar steel fleets.
Hence a treaty: sailing ships only, and no cannons. It’s worth a try.
