Fire Dept. Asks $208.5 Million for Coming Year
A proposed Los Angeles City Fire Department budget of $208.5 million for the fiscal year starting next July 1--a $17.6-million increase over the current year--was submitted to the Fire Commission on Thursday. The commission deferred action until next week.
The budget proposal includes a $2.6-million increase for overtime pay because of a federally mandated requirement and $3.6 million to cover increased staffing because of higher than expected attrition rates among newly hired fire and paramedic trainees.
The budget also calls for $894,000 for 10 new ambulances to bring the department’s fleet to 59.
