Tollner Puts Together a Tough, Talented and Exciting Trojan Team

Share

As a USC alum who argued with early critics of John McKay in ’60 and ‘61, I would like to write a few words on behalf of the current USC coaching staff and particularly Coach Ted Tollner.

I like “the bomb” on second and short, or having Rodney Peete roll out on fourth and one. I was happy to see the quick-kick utilized to such advantage and I’m excited by this young, yet talented, team Tollner and his staff have recruited.

This season, with the exception of the Washington State game, the Trojans have played well and in each case have been emotionally ready and invested with a good game plan. Arizona State is bigger and better (ask Washington or UCLA), still the Sun Devils had to play error-free football to escape defeat at the Coliseum.

This is a talented, tough and exciting group of young men. Ted Tollner not only found them and taught them, he has turned them into a potentially terrific Trojan team. No one asked, still I want to urge my fellow alumni to consider more than their emotional need to return to a gone but not forgotten past.
