Gasoline Prices Dip Slightly, Lundberg Says
The average price of gasoline dipped fractionally to 84.35 cents a gallon over the last two weeks despite small increases in wholesale prices, the Lundberg Survey of 15,000 gas stations nationwide showed Sunday.
The average price, which includes all grades and taxes, was 84.63 cents a gallon two weeks earlier.
“Retailers had a loss of a penny and a quarter on average as the wholesale increases came through” but did not pass the increases on to consumers, said Trilby Lundberg, publisher of the Los Angeles-based survey.
The latest survey showed that at self-service pumps, the average price of regular leaded was 71.43 cents, regular unleaded was 76.27 cents and premium unleaded was 90.88 cents.
At full-service pumps, the average price of regular leaded was $1.016, regular unleaded was $1.073 and premium unleaded was $1.166.
Lundberg noted that even if prices were to rise a penny in December, they would still be far below last year’s level.
One year ago, the nationwide average retail price of gasoline was $1.21 a gallon.
