The body of an unidentified white male, about 24, was found at 11:30 a.m. Monday floating in the ocean near Orange Street and Coast Highway, the county coroner’s office reported.

The coroner’s office said the body, which was clothed only in underwear, was spotted by a surfer and brought in by Newport Beach lifeguards. Because of the cold water, the time of death could not immediately be determined, said a coroner’s deputy.

The man had a cast on his left leg, the coroner’s office said. Efforts were being made Monday night to find anyone who could identify the apparent drowning victim, a coroner’s deputy said.
