Orange County College Basketball : Johnson Leads UCI Past San Diego State

UC Irvine’s Shurrell Johnson made a free throw with nine seconds remaining and then blocked a last-second shot by San Diego State’s Lisa Stevens to preserve the Anteaters’ 55-53 victory over the Aztecs in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. game played in the Bren Events Center at Irvine.

Irvine (5-2 in conference, 9-8 overall) trailed by a point, but Cheryl Hoffman made a steal and scored on a layup with 43 seconds left to give the Anteaters a 54-53 lead. Natalie Crawford had 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Zalina Walton added 11 points for Irvine.

In men’s action:

Arizona College of the Bible 92, Christ College Irvine 90--David Miranda made two free throws after time had expired to lift the Ambassadors to the Western Christian Athletic Assn. victory over the Eagles at Christ College Irvine. Bobby Gantt scored 32 points and Gary Sharpe added 20 for Arizona College. Shaun Massey (23) and Victor Townes (17) led the Eagles.

Christian Heritage College 81, Pacific Christian College 51--William Cunningham scored 20 points and Randy Foster added 15 to help the Hawks to a victory over the Deacons in a nonconference game played in Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Gym. Ken Osness led Pacific Christian with 24 points.
