THE TOWER COMMISSION REPORT : Copies to Be in Bookstores Monday
Bantam Books is rushing the Tower Commission’s report into print, and copies are to be available in bookstores next Monday.
“We decided (to publish) because there seemed to be an urgency to its contents that matched the public’s potential broad-based fascination with what it has to say,” Stuart Applebaum, a vice president of the company, said Thursday.
Bantam has specialized in producing instant books after important news events and has published more than 70 such titles, including “The Report of the Warren Commission on the Assassination of President Kennedy,” “The Pentagon Papers,” “The Watergate Hearings” and “The White House Transcripts.”
Bantam said it planned an initial press run of at least 300,000 copies. The book is being issued in association with the New York Times.
