Orange County College Roundup : Titan Softball Team Sweeps to 33rd Straight Win

The Cal State Fullerton softball team swept a doubleheader from host Nevada Las Vegas in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. game Saturday to increase its winning streak to 33 games.

Janis Okerlund (11-1) pitched the defending NCAA champion Titans (18-0, 41-1) to a 4-0 victory in the opener, and Fullerton used a school-record 25 hits to win the second game, 15-5.

In the first game, Fullerton scored in the first on Rina Foster’s sacrifice fly. The Titans added three runs in the fifth on RBI singles by Lisa Baker and Missy Coombes and a sacrifice fly by Cathi Hall.

UNLV (6-16, 12-27) had 10 hits in the first game.

In the second game, Hall was 5 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs and Foster went 3 for 5 with two RBIs. Chris Gage (8-1) allowed five runs in five innings but picked up the victory. Connie Clark pitched the last two innings for her fourth save.

In nonconference men’s track:

San Diego State 86, UC Irvine 77--Marc Goulet won the 800 meters and the 1,500 meters, but the Anteaters (5-2) lost at San Diego. Goulet finished the 800 in 1 minute 50.5 seconds and the 1,500 in 3:51.77.

In nonconference women’s track:

San Diego State 75, UC Irvine 68, Nevada Las Vegas 40--Jill Harrington and Buffy Rabbitt finished first and second, respectively, in the 800 meters and second and third in the 1,500 for UCI (6-2) at San Diego.
