Television news personality Terry Murphy has been freed by an out-of-court settlement to move from KABC-TV Channel 7 to KCBS-TV Channel 2, effective June 1. The ABC station had brought a lawsuit against Murphy and KCBS that sought to enforce its exclusive-rights claim to Murphy through 1988. Reportedly, terms of the settlement call for Murphy to pay $15,000 to former employer KABC and to agree not to appear on KCBS during the May ratings sweeps. According to a report in the Herald Examiner, Murphy is in line for a 60% pay hike--up to $400,000 from $250,000. Murphy will officially join KCBS on June 1 and will go on the air June 8.
