State of Transportation in Los Angeles Area

Share

I appreciated your series on traffic problems in the Los Angeles area. I live in San Diego, which, perish the thought, is projected to have the same situation in 5 to 10 years. That’s not to say we don’t already have congestion!

One of the disadvantages to living in a growing city is that many things in life that used to be free or of nominal cost aren’t free or nominal any more. For example, it used to cost $3 a day to park at the San Diego airport; now it costs $10. So, it’s about time to realize that freeways are very limited resources and may not be “free” any more either.

The “radical” items mentioned in the article aren’t nearly radical enough. For example, the Ventura Freeway widening project would cost less and go much more quickly if the freeway were made 3 lanes each way during construction and made available to car pools only during rush hours.
