Diamond Bar : New Incorporation Drive
After two unsuccessful attempts to incorporate their fast-growing community, a 30-member committee of residents will launch a new campaign for cityhood on Monday with a kickoff celebration at the Diamond Bar Country Club.
The group will have six months to collect the necessary 4,411 signatures, or 25% of the registered voters, to qualify the initiative for the November, 1988, ballot, according to Incorporation ’88 Chairman Gary Werner.
Concerns about development, annexation by neighboring communities and lack of local control have left the community with “zero time” to incorporate as a city, Werner said. Diamond Bar is governed by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors with assistance from a local Municipal Advisory Council.
Diamond Bar was originally developed in 1960 as a planned community. Its first incorporation effort was defeated in 1983 by 230 out of 6,696 votes cast. A second attempt last year fizzled when supporters failed to get enough signatures to place the measure on the ballot.
