HOW TO REACH NAVY AIR SHOW

The Blue Angels precision-flying team will take the spotlight at 2:30 p.m. today and Sunday during the annual Navy Relief Air Show at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station. The Blue Angels, along with skydivers, aerial acrobats, wing walkers and other aerial daredevils, will perform before an expected crowd of more than 500,000 in continuous air shows running both days from 9 a.m. to about 3:30 p.m. Heavy traffic is expected on the Santa Ana Freeway near the Marine base from 9 a.m. to noon and after 3:30 p.m. Admission to the show is free, with proceeds from food and concession sales going to benefit the Navy Relief Society.

HOW TO GET IN: Three gates will be open at 9 a.m. today and Sunday--the main gate on Trabuco Road:Gate 9 on Marine Way; and a temporary gate on Irvine Boulevard south of Sand Canyon Avenue. All three gates will close to inbound traffic from 2:15 to 5 p.m. each day.

ROAD CLOSURES: The California Highway Patrol will close northbound exits off the Santa Ana Freeway at Sand Canyon Avenue, Jeffrey Road and Alton Parkway from 2 p.m. until about 4:30 p.m. both days. Police will also close some surface streets next to the base from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Marine Way, Irvine Boulevard and Trabuco Road.
