Strings Lose TeamTennis Opener in San Antonio
Kim Warwick and Eric Korita defeated John Lloyd and Eliot Teltscher in men’s doubles Friday night to lead the San Antonio Racquets to a 27-18 season-opening victory over the Los Angeles Strings.
The Racquets, TeamTennis’ defending champions, dropped only one match as the Strings’ Anne White beat Gretchen Rush Magers, 6-3. The first match of the evening, women’s doubles, was won by San Antonio, Magers and Anne Smith routing White and Lisa Bonder, 6-0.
San Antonio took a 15-11 lead in the third match of the night when Warwick and Korita scored a 6-5 (5-2) win over Lloyd and Teltscher. Korita then went on to beat Teltscher, 6-4 in men’s singles to give San Antonio a 21-15 lead.
The mixed doubles went to Warwick and Smith over Lloyd and White, 6-3.
The Strings will play their home opener tonight against Sacramento at the Forum, starting at 7:30.
