Reagan Names Panel to Promote Adoptions

SANTA BARBARA —
President Reagan on Monday named a federal task force to sell adoption as an “alternative for pregnant women.”
“It is true that adoption is an alternative to abortion,” spokesman Marlin Fitzwater said in describing the work of the task force. “We want to make sure that there aren’t (federal) rules and regulations that hinder that process.”
The task force, composed of officials from a number of federal agencies and departments, will focus on “barriers to adoption,” Fitzwater said.
