The first San Diego Air Festival and Friendly Fly-In will be held today and Sunday at Brown Field. Sixty thousand people are expected to attend the aerial extravaganza featuring 600 planes.
Formula Ones, F-14s, F-16s, World War II fighters, antique planes and the world’s fastest piston-powered airplane will be among those at the show.
A few of the 40 acts scheduled are: a Formula One air race with teams from Britain, France and the United States; a wing-walking demonstration; comedy flying; helicopter precision flying, and an exhibition of the latest military aircraft and firepower.
In addition to the air show, there will be 60 aviation exhibits.
The air show begins at 11 a.m. Gates open at 8 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Tickets are $8 at the gate and $4 for children and senior citizens. A maximum of $22 will be charged to families of 4 or more. Children under 5 are free. Food and beverages will be on sale.
