Movable Microbrewery

Share

In an otherwise fine article on microbreweries of the Northwest by Mark Aspinwall Nov. 8, I must inform you of what appears to be a glaring error regarding the Thomas Kemper Brewing Co. It is no longer on Bainbridge Island in Puget Sound. It moved in October of last year to two miles west of Poulsbo, Wash., and is thriving. My wife and I had the good fortune of coming across the place accidentally during a drive in the area in July of this year.

Will Kemper told me that they are planning to (bottle its brew) next year. The only way you can take their beer off the premises is if you bring your own bottle, which we did on subsequent visits. Everything about the brewery is charming, not least of all the brew.

Hail to Will Kemper and his kind, who are fighting the good fight against the corporate homogenization of our society, and beginning to make a decent living out of it, too.
