Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Motorcyclist Killed in Skid on Freeway

A 23-year-old Santa Ana man was killed early Friday when the motorcycle he was riding skidded out of control and crashed on the southbound Santa Ana Freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.

The victim was identified by a CHP representative as Michael Todd Pettit.

Pettit was traveling south in the fast lane of Santa Ana Freeway just north of 17th Street in Santa Ana about 4:30 a.m., the CHP said, when he suddenly applied his brakes. The cycle skidded out of control, throwing Pettit to the pavement, the CHP said.

Pettit died at the scene. The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
