Local News in Brief : Zoning Code Clarified
The Redondo Beach City Council has unanimously passed two resolutions that redefine methods for calculating allowable density in the so-called medium-density residential land use districts.
These districts consist of coastal land areas west of Pacific Coast Highway, and were developed originally for the purpose of reducing density and traffic.
Under the local coastal plan, certified by the California Coastal Commission in the early 1980s, the number of residential units allowed on the parcels was open to several interpretations.
The resolutions clarified the provision by placing an absolute limit of 19 units per acre for multiple-density residential parcels of 7,500 square feet or less, and 23 units per acre on parcels greater than 7,500 square feet.
