Long Beach : Vote on Dean’s Resignation

The business faculty at California State University, Long Beach, is expected to announce the results today of a weeklong vote by secret ballot on a resolution calling for the immediate resignation of Mohamed Moustafa, dean of the School of Business Administration.

According to the resolution, informally approved at a faculty meeting last Friday by more than half of the department’s 69 tenured faculty members, Dean Moustafa has “lost the trust, confidence and support of the overwhelming majority of the (business) faculty,” causing a “breach (that) . . . has become irreparable.” Among other things, a spokesman said, faculty members are angry at what they characterize as Moustafa’s yearlong refusal to release records pertaining to the use of business school discretionary funds, which some believe he may have allocated unfairly.

Last week Moustafa, who has been dean since 1982, was temporarily reassigned to the office of university President Stephen Horn, who himself recently announced his resignation under fire.
