Local News in Brief : Early-Morning Collision Kills Driver in Newhall

A Newhall man was killed early Saturday in Santa Clarita when his car was broadsided by another car, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Eulalio Rivas, 19, was turning onto Newhall Avenue from 15th Street about 1 a.m. when he was hit by a car driven by John Davis, 18, of Valencia, officer Diane Lowery said. Davis was traveling about 60 m.p.h. in the 25-m.p.h. zone, she said.

Davis suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

Randy Stewart, 21, of Valencia, one of two passengers in Davis’ car, received major injuries and was listed in stable condition at Henry Mayo Newhall. The second passenger, Blake Smith, 21, of Newhall, was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and released. Authorities said that Davis may be arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter.
