Tiffany Boyd doesn’t expect anything when she pitches for Woodbridge High School’s softball team. But when she gets results such as her two no-hitters on Saturday, she isn’t surprised, either.

Boyd, a senior right-hander with a 7-2-1 record, started Saturday in the Woodbridge tournament with a perfect game in a 5-0 victory over Hemet and finished with a 10-0 no-hit victory over Arcadia.

“I’ve been working hard,” Boyd said. “(The perfect game) was earned--they’re a good team.

“It was my first no-hitter, so that should show you that it’s not easy.”

You can tell what kind of season she’s having by looking at her earned-run average over 70 innings.

It’s 0.00.

Woodbridge opponents have scored only three unearned runs against Boyd this season.

Such success comes back to Boyd’s work habits.

“The thing about Tiffany is that after practice ends, she goes and runs sprints,” Kodee Murray , Woodbridge softball coach, said.

“She works harder than anyone else.”

Boyd has walked only three batters this season and has struck out 148. And 36 of those strikeouts came in Saturday’s games.

“She’s intimidating,” Murray said. “It’s only 40 feet to the plate and she comes right at you.”

Boyd has been clocked at about 60 miles per hour this year, but said she can throw near 67 m.p.h. Boyd has been slowed because she had elbow surgery last December.

“She’s a power pitcher,” Murray said. “But she also has a good changeup.”

How many pitches does she use?

“Too many,” Boyd said with a quick laugh. “Because half the time, they don’t work.”
