Korea Jails Ex-Leader’s Brother
The younger brother of former President Chun Doo Hwan was arrested early today on charges of embezzling more than $9 million in public funds, taking bribes and tax evasion following a special investigation into a $16-million scandal.
The Seoul District Criminal Court ordered the arrest of Chun Kyung Hwan at the request of a special investigation team in the prosecutor general’s office. Shortly after the arrest warrant was issued, authorities escorted Chun from the prosecutor’s office to the Seoul Detention Center on the outskirts of the capital.
