Sockers File for Bankruptcy
The San Diego Sockers, the most successful indoor soccer franchise in the brief history of the sport, will file for court bankruptcy protection, the team announced Monday.
If granted, Chapter 11 protection will allow the Major Indoor Soccer League club to continue with the playoffs and remain intact until mid-summer while $1 million is sought from new investors.
“We sought relief that will give us four to six weeks to figure out if we can keep the team intact,” said Ron Fowler, chairman of Sockers Management, Inc., which took over the team from Bob Bell last September.
