El Monte : Dirt-Bike Patrol Resumed
The El Monte Police Department has reactivated its dirt-bike patrol program, in which two officers, using their own dirt bikes, patrol bike and equestrian trails and flood-control channels.
The purpose of the program is to reduce noise and dust caused by dirt bikes illegally using the trails and to apprehend runaway juveniles and truants who use the trails and channel areas to hide.
In 1987, the officers rode 3,200 miles, made a dozen arrests and issued 50 citations.
