Main Event at Speedway Is Won by Lucero

Steve Lucero of Riverside won the four-lap scratch main event in front of 5,316 Friday in the weekly speedway motorcycle racing program at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.

Dubb Ferrell of Whittier was second and Gary Hicks of Glen Avon was third.

Bobby Schwartz of Costa Mesa, who had won the scratch main event five consecutive weeks, was injured during his heat race when he collided with Lucero on the fourth turn of the first lap. Schwartz got up and won the heat but went into the semifinal race visibly shaken. He pulled up into the infield on the second lap and did not finish.

Andy Northrup of Ontario won the eight-lap handicap main event. Farrell was second, and Alan Christian of Huntington Beach was third.
