Mario Lemieux of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who ended Wayne Gretzky’s reign as the National Hockey League’s scoring champion this season, also ended his seven-year run as the NHL’s first-team all-star center.

Lemieux received 309 of a maximum 315 points in balloting by the Professional Hockey Writers Assn., to 185 for Gretzky, the Edmonton Oilers star.

Joining Lemieux on the first team were Calgary right wing Hakan Loob, King left wing Luc Robitaille, Boston defenseman Ray Bourque, Washington defenseman Scott Stevens and Edmonton’s Grant Fuhr, who won the Vezina Trophy as the league’s best goaltender.
