Greek police arrested an Arab, identified as Omar Mohamed Soffareny, who drove a car containing weapons and explosives aboard a ferry bound for the Israeli port of Haifa, the Greek Ministry of Merchant Marine said. It said the explosives and weapons were found in the car during a security check just before the ferry, named Paloma, was due to leave Athens’ port of Piraeus. The ministry said that the car, a new Mercedes-Benz, had been driven from Nuremberg, West Germany. The weapons, hidden in the chassis, included a pistol, 101 9-millimeter bullets, two silencers, 20 detonators and various materials used in explosives.
