Local News in Brief : Claim by Anti-Racists
Attorneys for four men arrested during a demonstration against an avowed racist in Glendale are contending that their clients were unfairly singled out for arrest.
At the request of Leonard Weinglass and three other defense attorneys, Glendale Municipal Judge Barbara Lee Burke on Monday postponed a discovery hearing so that she can first view an 81-minute Police Department videotape of the near-riot at the Glendale Holiday Inn on Nov. 22.
Weinglass said the police officers’ comments recorded as they were shooting the video showed a predisposition to arrest Jewish Defense League leader Irv Rubin and others protesting the appearance at the hotel of avowed racist and convicted church bomber J.B. Stoner.
The other defendants are John Michael Lee, Roger Marheine and Jose Hernandez.
