A Navy petty officer was being held Tuesday in the fatal shooting of her husband, who was also in the Navy. Petty Officer 2nd Class Laquita Jo Meads, 26, said she killed her husband, Petty Officer 1st Class Charles W. Meads, 26, in self-defense, according to Police Sgt. Anne O’Dell.
Police found a wounded Charles Meads on the floor of the couple’s apartment in the 600 block of Beyer Way in South San Diego shortly before 9 p.m. Monday. He was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he died about 11 p.m., Deputy Coroner Dan Matticks said.
Police, who recovered a pistol at the apartment, said they were told the couple had a history of domestic strife.
Laquita Jo Meads was being held at the Las Colinas jail for women in Santee.
