A toxic cloud sent skyward by a 300-gallon spill of nitric acid Tuesday forced the brief evacuation of about 200 people in a three-square-block area of Paramount, authorities said.

No injuries were reported in the spill at STI Inc., which occurred about 2:10 p.m., according to Los Angeles County Fire Department spokeswoman Diane Castro. The evacuation was ordered 20 minutes later and hazardous materials teams neutralized the acid inside the STI building with water by 3:30 p.m., she said.
