Local News in Brief : Anaheim : Group Praises Signing of Bill on Sex Education

An official of the Anaheim-based Coalition for Traditional Values praised Gov. George Deukmejian on Tuesday for signing into law a bill that requires sex education classes in public schools to stress abstinence.

Beverly Sheldon, education consultant for the organization, said the coalition had lobbied for passage of such legislation.

“We are very happy the governor has signed this bill because we think this is something important to help kids,” Sheldon said. “Most of the pressure kids feel about sex is not from hormones but from peer pressure to engage in sex. This type of education will make it easier for kids to be able to say no.”
