Mild Quake Hits Santa Monica
An earthquake measuring 2.6 intensity struck the Ocean Park area along Santa Monica Bay early today, prompting several calls to local authorities but causing no damage, officials said.
The temblor rolled through at 5:27 a.m. and was centered 1 mile south-southwest of Santa Monica, said Robert Finn, a spokesman for Caltech Seismology Laboratory in Pasadena. Police at the West Los Angeles station felt the temblor, Lt. Richard Molony said. “It was a single jolt,” Molony said. “It was like someone bumped into my desk.”
